I was going to sit down and blog last night, honest I was. (I was hoping to detail the adventure at the hair salon with Thea - because it has to be one of the most embarrassing moments of my parenthood to date.) Thursday nights are always busy at my house - its Nina's ballet night - and with Erick home sick it just was a busier night than expected. Instead of sitting down with the lap top, I chit chatted with a friend on the phone instead. This marathon Thursday went pretty well, all things considering. Erick had a terrible headache that just didn't seem to let up at all. So instead of making it to the gym like I had planned, I made it to the hair salaon, and did some grocery shopping, and took Nina to dance.
The Hair Salon: I took Thea with me to the salon so that I could get my hair cut. Being Grace was down for a nap, the only real humane thing to do was - bring the kid with. Thea has been boucing off the walls on a regular basis these days, and that certainly doesn't do much for headaches. Since Thea promised to be a good girl while mom got her hair done, I decided to take the chance and bring her with. She wanted to bring along her leapad and listen to a story - and I thought that was a good idea. I had envisioned myself getting my hair cut, and Thea sitting nice and listening to a story. What a pipe dream!

Tuesday evening was a really rough one at my house. I was thankful that it was my night to work, and I had a chance to get out of the house, even for a little bit. While Erick, myself and Nina are all a bit under the weather - which would account for the touchiness or crabbiness flowing.
Yesterday the big fight between Nina, Erick and I had started with the dog. Mathilda has been howling a lot. So much that its gotten downright out of hand. Any noise the kids make the dog is howling - and howling for quite a while. My suggestion was to talk to the vet about any suggestions he had to resolve this behavior issue with the dog. I didn't suggest shock collars or anything like that - but seeing what the vet would suggest. Erick had found a website that said that people had good luck with citronella anti bark collars. What we proposed to do was talk to the vet, and then work towards getting this behavior resolved. Nina said she'd have none of it. I was mad. Nina avoids any problem that arises in her life. Damn it - the dog howling has gotten to be my problem, and the neighbor's problem too. It NEEDS to be dealt with.

Its New Years Eve - and a beautiful snowy one at that. I have been bitching that there has not been any snow for the holidays - and thankfully its going to arrive just before the end of the holidays! I just saw on the news that we should be expecting 3 to 5 inches of snow. I am happy that even though we did not have a white Christmas, we are having a very nice white New Years. A little snow storm is just a perfect way to end the year. Don't you think? (Sure, if you don't have to shovel it right?)
Erick and I have a lot to be thankful for this New Years Eve. We are celebrating our sixth year in our house in Farmington, it was six years on Saturday since we moved in. In that six years we've done a lot of adding on. Erick and I brought home Gertrude and Mathilda, a few years later we had Thea, Nina joined us fulltime shortly after that, and then finally Gracie came! I still remember moving into the house and wondering what I was going to do with all this space - thankfully that question has been answered.

The week between Christmas Day and New Years Day always seems to be the fastest week of the year. Its not like I have anything really planned - but it seems to fill up quickly just the same. Last night was my first night back at work since the big holiday and it felt very good to get back there. It seemed as if it was the most normal thing I've done in days. Even the familiar "I'd like a Grande Brewed Coffee with 3/4 steamed milk and 4 pumps mocha." made me smile. Honestly I am looking forward to the next sesaon at Starbucks - I've looked at the Christmas Stuff long enough, and am ready to move onto looking at different things.
Thea turned the weather channel on for us to watch this afternoon. She says "Mom instead of me watching cartoons maybe we should watch something together. News always makes you happy!" and found me the weather channel. How nice huh? I am really impressed with that little girl. Thea got the American Girl Bitty Twins for Christmas and we've played with them a lot together. She likes to dress them up and we do their hair. It was a great idea to get two dolls - this way I don't have to sit and watch her play when she says "Play dolls with me mom!". So in a few minutes I am going to sit down with her again and we're going to play some dolls.
